Tips for Pre-Service Teachers

Pre-service teachers can always use advice from experienced educators. If you have any tips for us, please post them. No tip is too small. Here are some ideas:
  • Tips for the first week of teaching
  • Tips for teaching diverse learners
  • Tips for reaching out into the community
  • Tips for classroom management
  • Tips for organization
We would like to use these suggestions in a publication. If you will allow us to publish your ideas, please include your name, chapter name, and number on the comment. Or you can e-mail your ideas to piomegapi@org.msstate.edu. Thanks for all your help!

Learn your students names as quickly as possible.

Be sure to clearly state your expectations regarding attendance, classroom behavior, and work.

As a beginning teacher, become involved early in your professional associations. Get to know your colleagues at your school and at other schools. Network to learn what these professionally are doing. Be sure to contribute your successes as well.

If you have classroom rules, make sure you enforce them. Do not back down. Once you do, then you have lost total control of your class. Remember to be flexible and always prepared.
